DIY Leaf Art

Petal to the Metal DIY

DIY-Leaf-Art-with @monsterscircus

An easy way to jazz up your wall is finding a nice frame for some nice art – I’ve found a lovely one and created this green DIY to you.

DIY-Plant-Art-with @monsterscircus

So let’s do some leaf art!

DIY-Leaf-Art-Wall-Decoration-supplies @monsterscircus

Materialer:

Ramme

Palmeblad

Trin 1

Princippet er såre enkelt. Hver palme “strimmel” bøjes i en 45 graders vinkel

Trin 2

Trin 3

Næste strimmel flettes modsat, altså under og over, skiftevis

Trin 4

Supplies:

Frame

Palm leaf

Step 1

The technique is called plain weave. Begin by folding the blade in a 45-degree angle

Step 2

Alternate going over-under for each palm frond

Step 3

Repeat with the next frond, over-under pattern that’s the opposite of your first line

Step 4

Repeat steps 1-3 to continuing to braid the palm fronds until you’ve reach the end of the frond

Same procedure goes for the opposite side

I just love when I can create something special with a few supplies and this one, it’s oh SO simple!

Kun fantasien sætter grænser for, hvad du kan skabe a plante kunst.

The idea is very versatile and your only limit is your imaginations.

DIY-Leaf-Art-with @monsterscircus

Why not try doing some petal/ leaf patchwork?  This simple piece of plant art will enhance any room.

Or affix it on a card or make a foliage mobile!

I’ve made this as a special gift for a special event but more on that one later. Would you consider to gift a piece of homemade leaf art to your loved ones?

Are you ready to DIY some art that makes your friends go WOW?

  10. How do you keep it green?

    • Hi MI.
The gratifying when pressing flowers and foliage is the fact that it most likely over time will change.
I’ve used a Palm Areca leaf and it’ll retain color best if you pick early, younger and fresher leaves. But the green colour will fade, you can choose to see that as a kind of sympathetic form of art:-)
      Best,
      Mete

  11. I simply love these and can’t wait to try it — simple (and possibly naive) question — Won’t the leaves turn brown after a while??

    • Hi REKA.
Thank you SO much! You’ll love making the weaving part, it’s so much fun and really easy:-) I’ve used a Palm Areca leaf and it’ll retain colour best if you pick early, younger and fresher leaves. But the green colour will fade as time goes by, you can choose to see that as a kind of sympathetic form of art:-)
      Happy creating!

  12. Very beautiful!I would love to try this. Is the leaf glued to the Plexiglass or is it between two glass frames?

    • Hi Barbara.
Thank you so much! Ooh you really should Barbara and if you do, be sure to leave a link so we can see you piece of leaf art:-)
The MOEBE frame consists of 2 pieces of plexiglass, so I have’t used any glue, the leaf is layers between the acrylic sheets.
      Enjoy your day!
      Best,
      Mette

  14. Looks amazing! How do you keep it green? Maybe pressing it like one would press flowers?

    • Hi Linn-Marie.
Thank you so much! I’ve used a Palm Areca leaf and it’ll retain colour best if you pick early, younger and fresher leaves. But the green colour will fade as time goes by, you can choose to see that as a kind of sympathetic form of art:-)
Yes it’s same procedure as pressing flowers but with this project you’re able to enjoy the art while it’s being pressed:-)
      Best,
      Mette

  15. This is just so awesome! <3

  24. What a fantastic way to decorate a frame!
I have one question: after some days, the leaf gets rotten and turns brown? Or it stills forever?
    Thank you so much! 🙂

    • Dear Sandra.
Thank you so much for your kind comment!
I’ve used a Palm Areca leaf and it’ll retain colour best if you pick early, younger and fresher leaves. But the green colour will fade as time goes by, you can choose to see that as a kind of sympathetic form of art
      🙂
But if you preserve the leaf (same procedure as pressing flowers) it WILL remain green!!!
So happy crafting it’s so easy,
      Best,
      Mette

  26. Hello,

Where did you get a frame like that? I would love to try it for our bathroom.

    Thank you!

  27. This is gorgeous!
a couple questions: did you use a real leaf? if so, for how long did it keep green? and lastly, did you secure the leaf between glass or acrylic?
Thank you so much in advance. I will try this diy for sure. xx

  28. Do you have a technique that would protect the color of the leaves as they dry? This project looks amazing!

  29. That is so lovely ! I’m going to share your post on my blog ! 😉

  30. Will this last? Or will it turn brown, or worse?

  31. Doesn’t the more solid leaf picture n the background get mouldy? The picture that’s not as lacey and open as the palm frond… very pretty though

  32. Hello!

This DIY looks awesome and I can imagine pressing flowers using this method as well!

May I know where did you get the frame from? Thank you!!

  33. Such a unique way to brighten up the apartment walls! I have so many cool palms around my place in Honolulu. Trying this project tonight!
